Today in the club we gave a task for everyone to first individually write down in 90 seconds as many ways to make a pencil that was more profitable and more innovative than a standard wooden pencil is currently. We got some silly responses like, "An endorsed pencil from Taylor Swift". But people took it seriously, for the most part :). For Example: "The pencil should have a soft frame so it would lead to less strain in the hand after long periods of writing", "A new material for writing that would replace the lead so it is more durable and lasts longer", "The eraser compartment should have a button so it opens entirely, allowing for the eraser to be replaced more easily". We were so proud of all the ideas that people came up with!!!!!
We then had people branch into groups and have 90 seconds to expand on a regular pencil more in depth for the WHAT, the WHY, the HOW a standard wooden pencil works. From this on the white board we had them start to think of alternate solutions to the three questions, and list them.
Next club meeting we will present what the groups came up with and start a fun new activity!!!!
